Set of tropical overcoat and M40 cap for a Heer Nachrichten Gefreiter, overcoat of heavy olive wool and lined primarily in an olive colored cotton fabric, marked wist sizes and B41, with a matched pair of slip on shoulder straps for a tropical overcoat and made from the same colored wool, straps with lemon yellow colored synthetic piping, further overcoat has hand sewn rank chevron of the style intended for use on the tropical overcoat plus a tropical overcoat version of a Schirrmeister specialty patch, former owner's name written into lining where it meets the collar, coat is unmodified but does have a few small holes and some areas of moth tracking, the left rear skirt has some repairs made in an olive colored thread, all buttons match and appear originally sewn except for one which may have been re-stitched during the war, accompanying is a well-used tropical M40 cap, marked size 57, 1941 and manufactured by Schlesische Mützenfabrik Frankenstein and with this company's unique logo, insignia is originally hand sewn, machine applied soutache in lemon yellow is severely frayed but the branch of service color can still be distinguished, all grommets are intact, there are a dozen or so thread repairs to frayed areas of the cap's top, a section of the lining where it meets the lower rear edge has come undone and has been tacked back into place, these items did not come together but complement each other, rare, USD $7250 SOLD
