M36 service blouse for a Waffen-SS Infanterie Unterscharführer, this exact garment was featured in the highly respected series of books by the late Michael Beaver, Uniforms of the Waffen-SS (Volume 1, Chapter 5, pages 226-231), the base garment is a Heer issue pattern M36 constructed of earlier quality wool and having lining components of ribbed cotton, the three step liner, vertical bandage pocket buttonhole and other features typical of the product issued for Heer use, the blouse was period altered by having the skirt shortened and the lower cargo pockets, which have had their bellows removed, relocated, these being sewn down along their outer edges, the waist was also taken in providing a slimmer fit, a well executed patch was inserted at the rear upper arm and this area is a bit stiff as if starch has been applied, at the same time the above described alterations were made the metallic NCO tresse was sewn to both the dark green collar and slip on shoulder straps as the white bobbin thread is the same white cotton as is used in executing the alterations, the matching collar patches are hand applied, the unit tab being the hand embroidered bullion runic type and the rank tab having a single rank pip the prongs of which do not penetrate the collar, there are indications that the tabs as well as the flatwire sleeve eagle, were likely first removed from a donor garment before being applied as they appear more worn and show traces of previous application, the flatwire sleeve eagle is rather crudely hand sewn, the earlier type matched pair of slip on shoulder straps have synthetic piping and black ribbed cotton tongue reinforcing materials, the blouse is stamped with maker, size and M40 date, condition is very good but there are a few areas of insect damage - at the right waist below the right armpit there is a line of holes the area of which measure 3cm in length, there is a small hole to the upper left shoulder .5cm in diameter and are three holes to the left lower inner sleeve of about the same size, cuff and bandage pocket buttons are horn, pressed paper buttons are installed for the collar liner, the painted pebbled steel buttons are all present, have most of their finish and look to be originally sewn, extremely striking and interesting piece that gives the impression of being 100% wartime badged, please inquire to info@virtualgrenadier.com for additional information and photos, USD $8750 SOLD
