Full image - THIS ITEM IS SOLD

Double sided swastika emblem cut from the tail of a Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter by an American soldier, removed at war's end from both sides of the vertical stabilizer of a derelict or crashed aircraft, the two swastikas are mounted to either side of a section of finished plywood measuring approximately 30x30cm, the painted aluminum sections have been affixed to the wood with small flat headed nails and few of these are missing, each side's panel section has a seam with most of the rivets still in place, the black and white painted stenciled swastika is painted over the factory base finish and traces of this may be observed where the paint is scratched or has flaked, the metal sections within the arms of the swastika were laboriously cut out by the souveniring soldier, the soldier added his legend and date to the wood panel with a pen, the pieces are worn and aged with remaining paint coverage being about 90%, interesting relic of the fighting, USD $2800 SOLD
