Attributed service worn Knights Cross of the Iron Cross to a Heer Oberfeldwebel as manufactured by the firm of C.F. Zimmerman, once part of a larger grouping to include the documents, the medal was awarded to Feldwebel Johann Port on 25 August 1942 as Feldwebel and Zugführer in the 8.(MG)/Infanterie-Regiment 266, Port was awarded the cross for defending trench systems from a Soviet counter attack during the Battle of Sebastopol, the cross itself with attractive patina and wear consistent with being worn for a number of years, the front ring of the cross is stamped 800, the suspension loop is unmarked, the swastika has a polished appearance, the frame, ring and suspension loop show wear and age, the black painted finish is somewhat crazed and cracked, the reverse side show rather more wear revealing the base metal perhaps from coming in contact with a uniform button for a long period of time, the cross includes a well worn length of EKII ribbon of the diameter normally found worn on the ribbon bar, it measures approximately 76cm in length to include the tie strings which are of off white colored HBT tape and were carefully fitted to the ribbon finished at the ends, included with the set award are colored photocopies of Port's award documents including the preliminary RK, EKs I and II, Infanterie Sturmabzeichen, Ostmedaille, Westwall, promotion documents, BWB, SWB, Reichssportabzeichen (with photo) letter of congratulation from the commanding GFM and pages from his Soldbuch as well as photo of Port with other RKTs on the cover of the Illustrierter Beobachter, in addition there are photocopies of actual award of RK to port, RK portrait photos including one wearing steel helmet and a series of photos of Port being fêted in his hometown, files are also provided on CD, splendid attributed item for the collector interested in an actually worn and awarded cross, USD $9650 SOLD
