Fantastic named and faded Heer M40 tropical cap for a Heer Artillerie EM, cap manufactured by the Erich Bergmann firm, the faded red lining is stamped in black ink with rectangles containing both maker and size (58) information, additionally, the former owner's name is inked to the left interior panel, the original olive colored ribbed cotton body has faded to a uniform bone white color, due to heavy service wear, the cap's body has abraded at the brim edge, the peak, the rear most point and the lower rear right edge, in addition there are lightly frayed areas adjacent to the four ventilation grommets, the earlier pattern insignia is factory applied with the national emblem being straight machine sewing across the back top of the eagle's wing with the lower portions being finished by hand, the national colors rosette is straight machine stitched, the red soutache is quite frayed from wear with the inner cording being exposed, its application is period with the ends of the soutache being tucked between brim and cap body, lovely and desirable with the look as worn by the iconic Afrikakämpfer, USD $8000 SOLD
