Rare set of standard issue Waffen-SS Erbsentarn Panzer wrap and trousers for an SS-LAH Panzermann, wrap originally purchased in Alabama USA from an American service man in the late '60s/early '70s, textbook pattern Waffen-SS issue wrap is constructed entirely of drillich material overprinted on one side the in distinctive Erbsentarn 'dor' pattern camouflage, double breasted wrap has seven steel dished button to secure front closure and lapel, the two inner buttoning tabs are held with two black glass buttons, there is an internal pocket of the same camouflage material and to this, the tie tape tunnels are made of the same camouflage material, the ties themselves are of contrasting grey tones of HBT tape, one of the buttoning tabs is sewn, there is a black painted steel hook and eye at the throat, the sleeve ends are plain and are not adjustable, the collar's underside has wavy lines of reinforcing stitching that holds the fabric to the inner collar backing, the elliptical shaped buttonholes are sewn with straw colored threads, wrap is size stamped in dark purple or black ink, insignia includes a age toned machine embroidered sleeve eagle which is factory zig zag machine sewn with black bobbin thread to the left upper arm, the matched pair of slip on shoulder straps are held with machine applied bridles made of Erbsentarn material and anchored with steel dished buttons, all buttons are attached with black cotton thread, the later issue shoulder straps are the type with narrow tongues and have synthetic piping, each shoulder strap has an age yellowed machine embroidered onto black wool LAH slide, wrap was service worn and exhibits age and light fading, the undersides of the lower sleeves show more wear, the inner collar edge has areas of abrading revealing the inner reinforcing materials, the closely matching Waffen-SS pattern trousers were obtained separately, they too are made entirely of the Erbsentarn overprinted drillich material with the exception of the small loop above the small patch watch pocket which is fashioned from autumn pattern oakleaf A drillich fabric camouflage, the trousers have a built in dark grey webbed belt which is intended to be fastened with a detachable three prong buckle (absent), the button used to secure the buckle to its strap is of black plastic as are the four fly closure buttons, one button each of this type is also used at the trouser ends,steel dished buttons are used at the topmost inner waistband and to hold the two hip pocket flaps, there are no rear pockets, the inner crotch area is lined in ribbed white cotton, the same fabric is used to reinforce the leg ends, the leg end tie taps are of white HBT tape, knotted at the ends, one end has 'retreated' into the lining area, the trousers too show wear and age but are unaltered and undamaged with the exception of a chafed area at the inner right lower bloused trouser leg, rare and ultra desirable ensemble as famously worn by the crew of Tigers and other Panzer types in the Normandy battles and elsewhere, the same wrap is featured in the book Uniforms of the Waffen-SS: Vol 3 - Armored Personnel by Michael Beaver, please inquire to info@virtualgrenadier for additional detailed photos and for more history on the set, USD $25,000 SOLD
