Ultra rare white piped Heer EM M40 tropical cap, example manufactured by the firm of Kurtze & Storkmann, Berlin and the manufacturer marking is stamped in back ink inside a rectangle, size 58 is stamped above the manufacturer marking, mid war type having the red cotton lining and built in sweatband of stiffly treated off white cotton, there are two enameled ventilation grommets per side and three of the four still have their original finish, cap body is made of olive colored ribbed cotton twill, the white soutcahe, for Heer anti aircraft troops, is factory machine stitched with two rows of construction threads being sewn around the lower body's circumference and with the lowest of these dangling loose for a 6cm length from left soutache end (as facing the cap) to the lowest point of the national colors rosette, the woven tropical patter national emblem and national colors are originally hand sewn, interestingly, this example was actually worn and exhibits light age to the body and soling to the sweatband, the former owner applied stitches to the internal peak presumably to give the cap a fashionable pinched look but this application looks to have relaxed in intervening years, caps is somewhat wrinkled and the bill's internal stiffener is slightly misshapen from long storage in a pasteboard carton which is included, do not recall ever having seen another original M40 example piped in white, USD $7850 WITHDRAWN
