VirtualGrenadier is a non-political informational and commercial web site devoted to documenting the appearance of the German soldier 1939-1945 through the use of period photographs, by showcasing examples from private collections, and by offering original examples for sale. The site is intended for use by researchers, archivists and collectors of historical military memorabilia. This site carries no affiliation whatsoever with any political ideology. Lightly worn Heer officer’s tropical M40 cap produced by the firm of Bruno Kern, mid war product, the fat red colored cotton lining is faintly stamped in black ink with maker name, address and size 59, the lining has areas of whitish staining, likely from perspiration, the integral sweatband is made of cotton twill attached to a black oilcloth rim, the oilcloth section is somewhat brittle and shows flaking, the zinc ventilation grommets are sound, the cap's body is made of olive colored cotton twill, the silver metallic piping at crown and turn up were built in during the manufacturing process, the woven pattern tropical national emblem and rosette are factory hand stitched, cap is a bit wrinkled from long storage, there is one small spot of oxidation to the metallic piping, cap body itself is free of any damage, USD $4550
