Full profile

Appealing SS transitional black double decal M16 type helmet, refurbished for pre war use by SS personnel, the Austrian M16 shell was overprinted by hand in glossy black paint with SS runic and Party shield decals by C.A. Pocher being applied, the original WWI Austrian brown painted finish may be observed in areas where the black paint is absent, a pre-Aschluss Austrian swastika flag shield, hand painted to the center left side was overpainted when the helmet was refurbished but its outline is still clearly visible (and can be felt), the size 66 shell was re painted both inside and outside and there is some chipping to the top with rather less so to the sides, approximately 80% of the black external coat remains, any shell skirt stampings are covered by the black paint layer, liner pin finish matches and these have practically all of their paint, the decals are almost wholly intact and show just some rubbing to their surfaces, internally there are steel liner bands and three dark brown colored leather liner pads, two of these are missing the tips of their fingers, the relaxed black leather chinstrap is complete with its roller buckle, helmet includes COAs from two former sellers, superb item, USD $27,500
