Waffen-SS contract modified M42 service blouse for a Rottenführer in 5. SS-Panzer-Division Wiking, standard issue M42 blouse as manufactured for Waffen-SS personnel was modified by removing the lower portions of the four patch pockets and then adding false pleats to provide the appearance of the earlier pattern tunic, the pocket flaps were left in place and the pockets themselves were then reapplied in much the same position as when originally issued but using different thread, the lower pocket bellows were omitted when this was done, the blouse exhibits the typical features of an SS contract M42 tunic - the five button front, two step lining, the two position belt hook support holes, the horizontal bandage pocket buttonhole, etc., the garment is lined in rayon and has belt hook support straps of this same material, the contract markings have faded but large markings of an unknown nature were applied at the inner right shoulder, a matched set of originally sewn painted metal pebbled buttons are used, a pair of dark grey plastic buttons are used at each cuff and another for the bandage pocket, there are three black plastic buttons used to hold the included neck liner, insignia consists of the rarer variant style machine woven runic tab and matching rank tab with two slightly different styles of rank litzen with the more narrow center stripes, a matched pair of slip on private purchase quality Infanterie shoulder straps with basket weave type synthetic piping and bodies of black felt material and tongue reinforcement of black ribbed cotton, each shoulder strap has an embroidered slider of reinforced black wool with chain stitched block letter Ws (often seen with Westland) in off white thread, the sliders are hemmed at the edges and machine sewed together on the underside, in addition each strap has an NCO candidate strip of Luftwaffe style metallic tresse loosely applied, the upper left sleeve has a zig zag factory machine applied SS national emblem and a rank chevron with metallic tresse on black wool, the chevron is both machine straight stitched and hand sewn, the lower sleeve has an RZM style machine embroidered Wiking sleeveband with silver metallic borders machine applied by straight stitching, there are loops for two breast badges and marked zinc Infantry Assault Badge and Silver Wound Badge are included, there is an EKII ribbon in the buttonhole and this is completely sewn down along the perimeter, there is clear sign on the lining of a previously applied ribbon, condition overall is very fresh with minor wear visible to lining and even age to the insignia, rare example for famous unit engaged exclusively on the Ostfront, members of Wiking were awarded 54 Knights Crosses, more than any other Waffen-SS division, includes two quality reprinted and one original photo - two of Rottenführern wearing similar uniforms and one of an Unterscharführer wearing block letter W sliders on shoulder straps, piece was in the same collection for 20+ years, particulars additional detailed photos and pricing on inquiry to information@virtualgrenadier.com WITHDRAWN
