VirtualGrenadier is a non-political informational and commercial web site devoted to documenting the appearance of the German soldier 1939-1945 through the use of period photographs, by showcasing examples from private collections, and by offering original examples for sale. The site is intended for use by researchers, archivists and collectors of historical military memorabilia. This site carries no affiliation whatsoever with any political ideology. August Schellenberg firm made 'Hermann Meyer' type Luftwaffe tropical service visored cap, red cotton lining stamped in black ink size 55, with maker information and address in a block and then with 1942 date, cap body of tan colored cotton twill in the Luftwaffe shade, there are two ventilation grommets per side, the inner sweatband is made of the same twill material, the peak has a vertical internal stiffener, the lower edge of the rear cap band has three tan painted dished steel buttons for affixing the neck shield (not present) and for anchoring the chin strap (also not present), the woven unique Luftwaffe tropical pattern national emblem and wreath are originally factory hand applied as was standard with early production caps, this example shows light use and soling with just a couple of minor picks and spots to the fabric, excellent example that just needs a chinstrap, USD $2800 SOLD
