VirtualGrenadier is a non-political informational and commercial web site devoted to documenting the appearance of the German soldier 1939-1945 through the use of period photographs, by showcasing examples from private collections, and by offering original examples for sale. The site is intended for use by researchers, archivists and collectors of historical military memorabilia. This site carries no affiliation whatsoever with any political ideology. Waffen-SS Infanterie EM visored cap manufactured by the firm of Willi Sprengpfeil, earlier example constructed of field grey colored wool and having white wool piping at crown and along the edges of the cap band which is of black wool, black composite visor with fine cracking, the SS style black leather chinstrap is a bit dry and one end is split but rests into its place without aid, cap is lined in a finely textured creamy orange colored oilcloth, the lining is stamped size 56 in black ink underneath the celluloid sweat diamond, the supple sweatband is of brown leather and it is stamped on the reverse in black ink with 1939 date and the maker information, another stamping is H38 in large fonts, having silver washed zinc insignia affixed by prongs which do not penetrate the lining, there are no extra prong holes in these areas, eagle retains much of its silver finish while the skull retains very little, there is some insect damage to the wool between visor and lower band piping (below lower edge of chinstrap), one tiny hole at cap's rear next to the piping and a couple of spots of moth tracking to the top, otherwise there is no damage to cap body, band or piping, interior with light wear, USD $5500 SOLD
