Full profile

Heer M35 full basket wire camouflage helmet, this item was found with other helmets (and much other equipment) of similar condition in the final positions of German military forces fleeing the Gothic Line at war's end in the Trento and Bolzano provinces, the helmet exhibits the effects of being stored in a moist environment and there is some rusting to the shell and wire, the size 64 shell's stampings have been obscured by the thick layer of schiefergrau paint applied when the helmet was reissued, there are gouges and chips to the external painted service with rust to exposed steel areas, the inner skirt and dome also show flaking and rust, the European style chickenwire covering was folded over the helmet's rim with the ends being tucked between liner bands and the shell, there is a break to the wire at the right front visor, otherwise the wire is intact, the brown colored leather liner's fingers are dry and curled, it is stamped size 57 and the drawstring remains, the buckle end of the chinstrap is missing and the longer section is missing about 40%, liner pins are complete with washers and have not been disturbed, a background paper regarding the helmet's context will be provided to the buyer, USD $1785 HOLD
