VirtualGrenadier is a non-political informational and commercial web site devoted to documenting the appearance of the German soldier 1939-1945 through the use of period photographs, by showcasing examples from private collections, and by offering original examples for sale. The site is intended for use by researchers, archivists and collectors of historical military memorabilia. This site carries no affiliation whatsoever with any political ideology. Personalized Waffen-SS second type cold weather parka with sleeve rank as worn by an SS-Sturmbannführer, complex and heavy garment with the shell constructed of slate grey colored water repellent cotton duck, it is heavily lined in a panels machine assembled from sections of sheep fur, the seam of the lower left section has become partially undone revealing the lower left pocket, interestingly, its former owner had both of the lower pockets also lined in sheep fur, the hood was also removed with a collar also being fashioned from sheep fur, there is a drawstring at the throat, there are two upper pleated patch pockets and two lower slash flapped pockets, all of the pocket flaps have scalloped lower edges, the front closure with wind flap is closed with seven painted steel pebbled buttons, the button at the waistband is loose and will be left in a breast pocket, the right pocket has fishing line with hook wadded with old paper, the left upper sleeve has a screen printed camouflaged rank badge for the rank of SS-Sturmbannführer, it is originally hand applied with black cotton thread which has faded with age, coat demonstrates service use with some wear and evident soling but likely postwar use as well with the fishing line and traces of white paint to the right upper sleeve, item from the estate of a U.S. veteran, USD $3000
