Service used Kriegsmarine officer's M40 tropical cap, cap body is made of tan colored cotton twill of the distinctive KM shade, the golden yellow officer's piping is made of soutache material and was applied to the turn at the point of manufacture with the braid being machine sewn into place onto the cap's body, there are a pair of ventilation grommets per side and these still have much of their olive colored coating, liner is the typical ribbed green colored cotton as usually found in KM tropical caps, it is stamped size 59 and with the maker's logo hpc in a circle (Hermann Potthoff, Coesfeld, Westfalen), the woven KM tropical pattern insignia are machine applied with the national emblem being sewn in the 'zip and flip' manner having the lower edges machine zig zag stitched, the rosette is completely zig zag stitched, cap shows age with some light staining and a few picks to the fabric, the grommets are a bit oxidized but firmly attached, unmolested officer examples are harder to find, good looking, USD $1350 HOLD
