Full profile

Striking Luftwaffe M40 single decal 'tiger striped' camouflaged helmet, unique example having sprayed vertical stripes of a deep tan camouflage color, when viewing from the helmet's top the stripes are oriented from the upper left to the lower right and present an effective scheme to break up the hemet's shape, it would appear that some effort was made to avoid painting completely over the Luftwaffe eagle decal which is only lightly covered with overspray and which is still clearly visible, the sprayed finish extends to the inner skirt and with traces of tan camo paint to both liner bands and even the chinstrap, the factory blue grey painted finish is still visible where not covered in camo paint and, of course, to the inner dome, the liner pins look to have had the smoother blue grey factory paint before being overpainted and each is firmly attached with washers tightly fitted, the steel liner bands have also not been disturbed and there is significant build up of dust, spider webs, cocoons and so forth between bands and helmet shell, the brown leather liner is complete with original drawstring but the tips of the fingers are dry, blackened, and have traces of apparent organic material presenting a crackled appearance, the full length dark brown chinstrap has a pigskin like textured finish and does not appear to be marked, the buckle end was either torn or cut and is missing its rivet end but is still buckled into place, due to the dark colored lining sections and the condition of the chinstrap it may be that the helmet's wearer was wounded or killed in action, fantastic helmet, USD $4675 HOLD
