VirtualGrenadier is a non-political informational and commercial web site devoted to documenting the appearance of the German soldier 1939-1945 through the use of period photographs, by showcasing examples from private collections, and by offering original examples for sale. The site is intended for use by researchers, archivists and collectors of historical military memorabilia. This site carries no affiliation whatsoever with any political ideology. Service used Luftwaffe officer's 'crusher style' visored cap with leather visor, the cap body is made of finer early quality blue grey colored trikot wool, the cap band is ribbed black mohair, having metallic silver piping along crown and edging the cap band, the crown piping is of a thicker diameter than the band piping, the black leather visor shows the normal cracking, at one time a chin cord must have been in place as there are trace impressions to the leather where visor meets the cap body, also, the visor was machine reinforced with black thread and this stitching line is also visible externally, lining is cream colored rayon, the celluloid sweat diamond is has cracked edges and is about 90% loose, the dark brown colored leatherette liner has been entirely resewn with blue grey thread along its perimeter, the insignia are hand embodied being rendered in aluminum wires with thread highlights, both pieces are originally sewn through much of the eagle's highlights are missing, the cap body is undamaged but sections of the piping are abraded and 'broken', mostly at the front left, estimate size 55, Luftwaffe visored caps with leather visors are uncommon, USD $2185
