VirtualGrenadier is a non-political informational and commercial web site devoted to documenting the appearance of the German soldier 1939-1945 through the use of period photographs, by showcasing examples from private collections, and by offering original examples for sale. Unissued second pattern Sumpftarn Luftwaffe Fallschirmjäger helmet cover, constructed from panels of hard edged Sumpftarn pattern printed on cotton material, the vertical panel is a single piece with a seam at the rear, the top panel is a single piece, the lower edge is hemmed to form a tunnel through which a corded and knotted drawstring is threaded, the inner lower hem is reinforced with a continuous strip of grey colored fabric tape having HBT weave, there is wider band of flat grey tape fitted to the mid outer circumference of the cover for the attachment of foliage, this length is actually made up of two continuous parallel pieces overlapped and sewn together with the ends being inserted into the rear seam, the cover's construction was accomplished through machine sewing using olive colored cotton threads, the interior is stamped in black ink size 2, all photos were made on a 68 shell (helmet not included) and fitting to the helmet was easily accomplished and the drawstring was not tightened in the process, attractive example in unused condition and with just a few tiny picks to the fabric, to read more about this type please refer to the book German Paratroopers - Uniforms, and Equipment 1936-1945 by Karl Veltzé and paste the URL below, USD $3450
