Interesting Heer tropical M40 made by the Bergmann firm as worn by an Anti-Aircraft crewman, the red colored cotton lining has the black ink block stamping for maker Erich Bergman of Ebersdorf with 1942 date and size 54, the cap's shell is constructed of thick early quality olive colored cotton twill, each side has a pair of ventilation grommets with intact olive colored coating, the tropical pattern woven insignia are factory sewn, the national emblem is applied in the 'zip and flip' style being straight machine stitched across the top of the eagle's wing then being flipped over and with the lower portions being finished by hand, the white soutache is not the original factory application but has all of the hallmarks of being a depot or factory rework, the soutache applied at the factory was removed and the replacement white soutache was sewn by machine straight stitching through the lining with finishing horizontal stitches being applied just above where the soutache ends meet the cap's brim, the sewing is period in appearance and was completed before subsequent wear at the forehead area occurred, it is thought that caps piped in other Waffenfarben were repurposed for wear by Anti-Aircraft crews due to short supply of caps piped in white, USD $7850
